Accessing Online Folders from Your Desktop

This is a pretty straightforward way to access an online folder from your computer as you would any other computer file. The setup is a little bit of work, but once the initial setup is done, you're set!

  1. Open up Windows Explorer (not the same as Internet Explorer). You can do this one of two ways
  2. Under the folder structure (usually in the left-hand pane), find Network
  3. Right click on the Network link
  4. Select Map Network Drive
  5. Click on the underlined blue link (Connect to a website that you can use to store your documents and pictures)
  6. Click next
  7. Make sure "choose a custom location" is selected and click next
  8. Enter the internet address (it will usually begin ftp://)
  9. Make sure "log on anonymously" is NOT checked.
  10. Enter in your user name
  11. Click next
  12. Choose name for location (optional)
  13. Click next
  14. Click finish
  15. Another explorer window should open up for you. Now you will need to log in providing your password.
  16. Once you've done that correctly, you should be set. The site/folder will now appear under your computer drive listing. You can drag and drop files as need, delete files, etc.
