Accessing Online Folders from Your Desktop
This is a pretty straightforward way to access an online folder from your computer as you would any other computer file. The setup is a little bit of work, but once the initial setup is done, you're set!
- Open up Windows Explorer (not the same as Internet Explorer). You can do this one of two ways
- Go to the Start Menu > Click on All Programs > Click on Accessories > Click on Windows Explorer
- From your keyboard, select the Windows Button and the E at the same time.
- Under the folder structure (usually in the left-hand pane), find Network
- Right click on the Network link
- Select Map Network Drive
- Click on the underlined blue link (Connect to a website that you can use to store your documents and pictures)
- Click next
- Make sure "choose a custom location" is selected and click next
- Enter the internet address (it will usually begin ftp://)
- Make sure "log on anonymously" is NOT checked.
- Enter in your user name
- Click next
- Choose name for location (optional)
- Click next
- Click finish
- Another explorer window should open up for you. Now you will need to log in providing your password.
- Once you've done that correctly, you should be set. The site/folder will now appear under your computer drive listing. You can drag and drop files as need, delete files, etc.
